Alvin Seville is the titular protagonist of the Alvin and the Chipmunks film series. He is the oldest and leader of the Chipmunks and the adoptive son of Dave Seville. He has a love/hate relationship with Brittany Miller. His speaking voice is provided by Ross Bagdasarian Jr.

Biography[]

Alvin retains some of the traits he possessed from 80s such as his impulsiveness, desire for fun, and charm as seen in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel where he manages to capture the attention of a group of girls using his cute looks and as well as the French language (e.g. he called Becca Mademoiselle after kissing her finger). Nevertheless, he has difficulty at showing affection toward Dave such as in the first film, Alvin and the Chipmunks, where he struggles at telling Dave that he loves him as a father, but less so with his brothers such as the time Alvin tried to kiss Simon to cheer him up in the second film. In the third film, when all of the Chipmunks are stranded on the island, Alvin slowly becomes the mature one, as seen when he yells at Simon (who had a change in personality due to getting bitten by a spider), only for Brittany to tell him he's starting to sound like Dave - much to his horror ("Nooooooooo!") and builds the boys' treehouse by himself.

Appearances[]

Alvin and the Chipmunks[]

A tree that he and his two brothers, Simon and Theodore, live in, is cut down and driven to Los Angeles after JETT Records purchases it as a Christmas tree. He and his brothers hop into a basket of muffins that Dave stole from one of Ian's coworkers, and follow Dave home.

Once there, Dave discovers him and his brothers and kicks them out of the house, only to hear them sing "Only You (And You Alone)", and "Funkytown." Dave then makes a deal with him and his brothers to sing songs he writes in exchange for shelter. Later, when Dave tries to present him and his brothers to Ian, they fail to sing because of stage fright. The day worsens as Dave is dismissed from his advertising job due to him and his brothers having unknowingly ruined his presentation. While hosting dinner with former girlfriend Claire, Dave struggles to hide him and his brothers after he attempts to create a romantic atmosphere, making Claire uncomfortable and causing her to leave. To make it up to him, he and his brothers go to Ian's lavish mansion where they sing Dave's song to him, prompting Ian to sign a record deal.

He and his brothers quickly become internationally successful. When Dave, concerned for their well-being, insists that he and his brothers are too young to handle fame, Ian convinces them that Dave is holding them back. After a misunderstanding, he and his brothers choose to live with Ian, whose only interest is profiting off their success as they set off on a nationwide coast-to-coast tour where Ian exploits their naĆÆvetĆ© by overworking them constantly. Frustrated by what Ian has done to him and his brothers, Dave decides to infiltrate their concert at the Orpheum Theatre to take them back.

Before their tour can begin, a veterinarian explains to Ian that the his and his brothers' voices have been worn out due to exhaustion and suggests that they take a long rest, but Ian, unwilling to issue refunds, advises them to lip-sync. With Claire's help, Dave is allowed into the concert; he and his brothers hear Dave calling and decide to sabotage the show. Dave is taken hostage by security and Ian steps on his and his brothers' tails, locks them in a cage, and prepares to take them on their world tour, escaping in his limousine with Dave in pursuit, though they have already escaped into Dave's car. As he and his brothers reconcile with Dave, Ian uncovers the escape, which costs him both his career and his fortune.

The ending scene shows him and his brothers trying to help with Dave and Claire's date, which is helped by the fact that Claire appreciates the boys and their company. However, he accidentally causes trouble when trying to get the cork open, as when he did get it open, it sent the cork flying to the glass cabinet full of glasses, shattering those. Then, due to how the wine bottle is positioned, the wine spills onto the floor. The wine then reaches the electric outlet, so it causes the power to short circuit and go out, which causes Dave to yell his name, which he replies "Okay!"

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel[]

Two years after the events of the first film, David Seville is seriously injured when a cardboard cutout of him sends him flying across the stage during a charity benefit concert in Paris, France. While he recuperates in a French hospital, Dave asks his aunt, Jackie, to look after him and his brothers, Simon and Theodore. Arrangements are also made for them to attend West Eastman High School. After Jackie also has an accident at the airport, he and his brothers are left in the care of Toby, Jackie's grandson and Dave's cousin.

While at school, two jocks ridicule him and his brothers, and threaten to kill them because their girlfriends are attracted to them. They chase him and his brothers around the school, giving Simon a swirlie in a toilet and poke at Theodore's backside. He and his brothers are summoned to the principal's office after attacking the jocks. The principal, Dr. Rubin, who is a fan who saw them in Denver, Colorado, enlists their help to raise money for the school's music program by participating in a contest. Ian is shocked to find him and his brothers on the front page of his newspaper. After he reads a story about them, he quickly enrolls the Chipettes to the same school.

When he and his brothers meet the Chipettes, both groups are smitten with each other. However, Brittany reminds the girls that Ian said he and his brothers betrayed him and are untrustworthy. He and the boys struggle to make it through a rehearsal because of their new crushes. The boys are shocked to see the girls are working with Ian, and a rivalry emerges when Ian convinces Dr. Rubin to let the Chipettes compete in the Battle of the Bands. Rubin sets up a concert for the two groups to compete to represent the school.

He becomes popular with the jocks and joins the football team, not realizing that the next game is during the concert. At the concert, Theodore and Simon tell the fans that he failed to show up, and they cannot perform, leading to a victory for the Chipettes. He arrives after the concert to an empty auditorium, and Brittany calls him out for his lack of responsibility. He returns home and unsuccessfully tries apologizing to his brothers. Learning that Theodore ran away to the zoo the next day, he and Simon went there, saved him from an eagle, and the three then reconcile.

Before the Battle of the Bands, he receives a panicked phone call from the Chipettes, who tell him that Ian has locked them in a cage. He races off to rescue them while Simon tells Jeanette how to pick the lock over the phone. Simon and Theodore are on the verge of going out to perform just by themselves until he and the others arrive just in time to perform at the contest. He, his brothers and the Chipettes perform together for the first time and win the money for the music program. Dave, who had left the hospital upon learning that Toby was looking after the Chipmunks, returns during the contest, happy to see him and his brothers again. The Chipettes are allowed to stay with him, his brothers and Dave.

During the ending scene, he isnā€™t tired as his brothers and the Chipettes are tucked in for bed, and plays with the lights, trying to keep them on. Dave then starts to come to him to knock it off, and knowing that he once again made Dave mad, he turns off the light, which causes Dave to slip on a skateboard and injure himself again. He then turns back on the light and sees Dave's hurtful state, then he guilty states that he suddenly got tired, says goodnight to Dave and turns off the lights, then Dave yells his name again.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked[]

Two years after the events of the previous film, he, his brothers, Dave and the Chipettes go on a cruise ship heading for the International Music Awards. Both groups end up creating trouble; culminating in Dave having dinner with the captain to apologize for the trouble. He tells them to stay in their room, only for him and the others (except Theodore) to escape to the casinos. Dave discovers his former supervisor; Ian Hawke is working as the ship's safety monitor dressed as a pelican, and is out to inform the captain if he, his brothers and Chipettes cause more problems. The next day, he decides to go para-sailing on a kite but the kite flies away with him and the other Chipmunks. Dave goes on a hang-glider to try to find them but Ian attempts to stop him, which results in them both ending up in the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, he, his brothers and the Chipettes find an island and they sleep for the night. Dave enlists Ian's help to find the same island and begin looking for him, his brothers and the Chipettes. The next morning he, his brothers and the Chipettes go and find food and while doing so, an island castaway named Zoe shows up and sees them for the first time. They then go to Zoe's tree house where Eleanor sprains her ankle and Simon gets bitten by a spider; its side effects including personality changes and loss of inhibition.

The morning after, everyone observes Simon's personality changed where he thinks he's a French adventurous chipmunk named "Simon(e)". "Simone" becomes attracted to Jeanette but does not take as kindly to him and Brittany. He and Brittany see an active volcano the next day and they decide that they have to leave the island with the others. Theodore and "Simone" find Dave and Ian and they go to meet with him and the Chipettes. They all begin to prepare a raft to get them off the island and everyone is assigned a job.

Everyone finds Simon awake and he cannot remember anything since the bite. They discover that Zoe has taken Jeanette and they head towards the waterfall. When they approached the tree log to cross, he and Dave decide to go and find Jeanette. He and Dave come to her rescue. The island begins to rumble again and Zoe lets go of the rope and Jeanette runs with him and Dave back to the raft. When they reach the log to cross, Dave almost falls.

He and a reformed Ian convince Zoe to help save Dave. They then run towards the raft and escape the eruption. While on the raft, he reconciles with Dave and they are rescued. He, his brothers and the Chipettes perform at the International Music Awards.

Then, during a mid credits scene, where, he, his brothers, Dave and the Chipettes are on a flight back home, he causes trouble again by taking to everyone in the speaker on the cart, pretending to be the captain. Dave notices this, and he gets off the cart, only to accidentally push it onto Dave, almost injuring him again, causing Dave to once again yell his name, as he gets a guilty look on his face.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip[]

Four years after the events of the third film, he and his brothers, Simon and Theodore, along with the Chipettes ā€“ Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor ā€“ have moved to a new house and set up a surprise birthday bash for Dave Seville that also serves as a good luck/going-away party for the Chipettes, who are scheduled to be guest judges on ''American Idol''. He invites and hires many people and celebrities to Simon's dismay. Though dissatisfied, Dave agrees to take them mini-golfing, where he and his brothers meet Samantha, who he has been dating for the past few months. While he and his brothers like Samantha, her son Miles physically abuses the trio. Later, he and his brothers find an engagement ring in a bag Dave brought home and believe that he is going to propose to Samantha. Realizing in horror that Dave and Samantha getting married would make Miles their step-brother, they try to steal the ring, but are unsuccessful.

Dave has to produce a record for rising pop artist Ashley Grey in Miami, and decides to bring Samantha along with him. He, his brothers and Miles are staying together, but they agree to head to Miami to sabotage the supposed proposal. He and his brothers drug three squirrels and dress them up in their clothes to fool their hard-of-seeing neighbor Ms. Price, who was asked to look after them. He, his brothers and Miles travel on a plane, but Theodore lets out a monkey, which then lets out several animals which cause an emergency landing and frustrates unscrupulous Air Marshal James Suggs, who is revealed to resent the Chipmunks because his girlfriend dumped him on Christmas for being so into them at the time, effectively eliminating his shot of becoming an FBI agent, so because of that, and for the times they've caused trouble on the planes (knowing about him pretending to be the captain and almost injuring Dave again in the 3rd film and Theodore letting the animals loose in this film), he puts them on the No Fly Lost (except for Miles).

He and his brothers perform at a bar, but are caught by Suggs, he starts a bar fight and he, his brothers and Miles escape. They jump into a taxi cab, though the driver kicks the four out for not having the money. He, his brothers and Miles rest at an old tree, and Miles reveals that his father left him when he was five years old, causing the four to bond and see each other in different lights. They raise money to take a bus to New Orleans, and perform at the Mardi Gras parade, which gets the attention of Dave when it is broadcast on live television and allows him and his brothers to cause Suggs, who has followed them, to get drunk on moonshine.

Dave and Samantha find him, his brothers and Miles at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and punish them for sneaking out and not responding to numerous missed calls and texts from Dave. With him and his brothers now on the No Fly List, Dave has to drive the boys. When they arrive in Miami, he reveals that he stole the ring from the container, thus ruining the proposal. However, Miles had bonded with him and his brothers during their trip and was upset that they were celebrating over this, thinking they just didn't want to have him around. He crosses the street with his headphones on and is almost hit by a car, but him and Simon swing Theodore and push Miles out of the way, saving his life. They agree to give the ring back.

During the dinner, Suggs catches up with him and his brothers, but they trap him in an elevator, and that was the last they saw of him, much to their relief. He, his brothers and Miles return the ring to Dave saying they accept Samantha and Miles into the family, but Dave reveals the ring belonged to his friend Barry (Eddie Steeples), who was proposing to his girlfriend, Alice. As one final attempt, he and his brothers try making it up to him by singing a new song to him at the launch party with the help of the Chipettes, Ashley and Miles. They also return the ring to Barry, who reattempts his proposal to Alice, and this time, Alice accepts. They also apologize to Dave for their actions. Having forgiven them (while also apologizing for going overboard with his no music policy which was their punishment), Dave officially adopts him and his brothers as his sons, much to their joy and happiness.

They all then finally return home, only to see the squirrels cause chaos at the house. Knowing Alvin was the one behind this, Dave yells his name once again.

Relationships[]

Dave Seville[]

The relationship between Alvin and Dave is frustrating for the two of them at times. Frequently, Alvin will disobey, which makes Dave scream his signature catchphrase "ALLLVIIINNNN!!!!", to which Alvin replies with a loud "OKAY!!" Although they can both irritate each other, they really love and care for each other. Alvin was really happy when Dave adopted him and his brothers at the end of the fourth film, with Alvin getting the best love and respect from Dave that his real parents could never give him.

Simon Seville[]

Generally, Alvin and Simon have a love/hate relationship. They get frustrated with one another, mainly because of their differences. However they eventually work things out. Despite Simonā€™s disagreements about Alvinā€™s plans, Alvin does manage to talk him into it. The brothers do care about each other overall, as they help each other out during their adventures, such as saving Theodore from an eagle, and saving Jeanette from Zoey.

Theodore Seville[]

Alvin's relationship with Theodore can sometimes be hard for Theodore. Sometimes Alvin enjoys teasing Theodore; it usually upsets Theodore, which Alvin doesnā€™t realize. Alvin also drags Theodore into his schemes. Although Alvin is sometimes rude to Theodore, he cares and stands up for him as seen in the 2nd film where he and Simon attack the bullies picking on Theodore. Alvin's care for Theodore is also shown when he and Simon save him from an eagle, and when he, Simon and Miles go to check on him after they saved Miles' from getting hit by a car, and is relieved when he is revealed to be ok.

Brittany Miller[]

Alvin and Brittany have a somewhat competitive relationship, especially due to both possessing very big egos. They are sometimes at odds with one another and argue, but they do show that deep down they love each other. This is especially shown in the 3rd film, where they work well with one another, and Brittany comforts Alvin when he thinks Dave is not coming for them. They also help each other out, such as when Alvin saves her and her sisters from Ian in the 2nd film, and when she and her sisters sing a heartwarming apology song with him and his brothers to Dave in the 4th film.

Jeanette Miller[]

Alvin and Jeanette are good friends. This is especially true when Alvin saves her and her sisters from Ian in the 2nd film, when he and Simon save her from Zoey in the 3rd film, and when she and her sisters sing a heartwarming apology song with him and his brothers to Dave in the 4th film.

Eleanor Miller[]

Alvin and Eleanor are the most sporty and athletic out of all the Chipmunks. They are also good friends, and this is especially true when Alvin saves her and her sisters from Ian in the 2nd film, and when she and her sisters sing a heartwarming apology song with him and his brothers to Dave in the 4th film.
