I am never gonna let you go, Nigel!
―Gabi

Gabi is the secondary antagonist of Rio 2. She's a clingy and cute tree frog and the henchman of Nigel and, at the end against his will, his wife.

She's voiced by Kristin Chenoweth

Role in the film[]

Backstory[]

When she was a young frog her parents lied to Gabi saying that she was poisonous and she shouldn't touch anyone. This was because she's extremely clingy towards anyone she loves.

At an unknown point of her life, Gabi would be captured by humans and put inside a bottle inside a Festival. There she would meet Nigel and would fall in love with him but since she was convinced she couldn't touch him she never was clingy towards him. She also met and became friend of a mute ant eater named Charlie.

Rio 2[]

Gabi first appears when she's cheering Nigel up for his performance as an indovino bird.

Then she's freed by Nigel when the latter escapes to have his revenge on Blue and he takes her and Charlie with him as his assistants.

The trio sails in a ship secretly where Blue and his family are sleeping and Nigel decides they will attack at night.

That night Gabi dreams about being with Nigel singing "Poisonous love" but then she remembers that she can't touch anyone as she's poisonous.

Then she tries to poison Blue before Nigel stops her saying that he's the one who will do it and prepares to kill Blue but Charlie accidentally plays the alarm of the ship that wakes the humans that kicks them out of the ship.

The next day, they find the Macaux's tribe. Nigel attacks Peri, who he tought to be Blue but he discovers to be in an audition and starts singing "I Will Survive" with Gabi dueting with him. Soon Nigel reveals his plan: to use the upcoming show as an opportunity to kill Blue with a poisonus dart, using a porcupine quill as a dart and Gabi's venom.

However while they prepare Nigel gets too focused on its performance and walks right before Blue without even noticing despite Gabi's alerts.

After the loggers are driven off, Gabi tries to shoot Blue with a poisonus dart but she accidentally hits Nigel with the latter apparently dying. Saying that she won't live in a world without Nigel she swallows her own poison and apparently dies.

However, Bia points out that Gabi is not poisonous at all. Still alive, Gabi protests saying that her parents always said that she was poisonous and she shouldn't touch anyone, to wich Bia replies "You just had really mean parents".

Gabi is ectastic that she can be with NIgel, even foiling his attempt to attack Blu by dragging him with her ino the bushes and showering him with love.

Off-screen she also marries Nigel against his will probably while she's still holding him.

Gabi e Nigel vengono poi ritrovati da Linda e Tulio, che mette la coppia in una gabbia e li riporta a Rio deJainero per osservarli come apparentemente the two have "bonded".

Gabi, mentre è aggrappata alla testa di Nigel, è felicissima all'idea di una "luna di miele a Rio" e abbraccia her husband, with the latter's frustation. Now Gabi is finally with her beloved Nigel and she don't intend to leave him alone not even for a minute.

Then Linda and Tulio enter in the helicopter and takes the "loving couple" to Rio.

Trivia[]

  • Gabi reveals to have a sovruman strenght as she's able to drag Nigel away without any effort even when he's resisting despite the latter is way bigger than her.
  • It's actually unknown if she will appear in Rio 3 but since Nigel will have to escape from her before trying to get his revenge on Blu again she will most likely make at least a cameo.
