Nicholas "Nicky" Daley is the main protagonist in the Night at the Museum film series.

Personality[]

Nick, for the most part, is a regular down-to-earth teenager. He has a passion for his music and a great love for the people he cares about. However, he is prone to being somewhat clumsy and slightly cowardly, especially if he gets nervous about something. His greatest fear is letting people down and not living up to his parents' expectations. However, he is willing to go the extra mile to accomplish his goals and becomes fully committed when something as drastic as the fate of the world is on the line.

Appearance[]

Nick is a tall 18-year-old with curly brown hair. In his casual clothing, he wears denim jeans, a pale yellow shirt, a green hoodie, white, blue and green sneakers and a red beanie. While working at the museum, he dresses in the standard blue night guard outfit with a black tie and black dress shoes.

History[]

Night at the Museum[]

Nick lives with his divorced parents Larry and Erica. He hates having to move when his father finds a job but is fired for his lack of skills. He is afraid that he will not keep his job as a night watchman at the Natural History Museum.

After promising him a visit to the museum, he invites his friends but is disappointed to see Larry being fired by Dr. McPhee. At home, Larry explains to him that he made arrangements with the director and decides to take Nicky to the museum at night to reveal the secret of the statues that come to life at night. However, the tablet was stolen by Cecil Fredericks and his companions, the former night watchmen and Nicky activates the tablet that animates the exhibits. Larry tells him to flee, but the guards catch up with him and retrieve the tablet before locking him with Larry in the tomb room of Pharaoh Ahkmenrah. The latter wakes up and helps Larry and Nicky to escape. Later, with the help of the exhibits, Larry chases Cecil out of the museum, and Nick rides Next To Raeven Rexy with Hi

During the night party, Nick is seen on Rexy again and tells Larry that he doesn't want to come home, enjoying the evening.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian[]

As a minor character, Nick helps his father guide him through the Smithsonian to find his friends captured by Kahmunrah, Ahkmenrah's older brother.

He also appears at the end of the film, working at the box office and greets Larry in the distance.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb[]

In the third film, he has a party with several of his friends but is scolded by Larry who wants him to find a job. Nick then says he would like to be a DJ in Ibiza, dismaying his father.

He then accompanies his father to the British Museum in London to repair the tablet whose powers are beginning to wear out. He also meets Sir Lancelot who gives him several tips and tells him not to give up on his dreams. Towards the end of the film, Nick is threatened with being killed by Lancelot who wants to recover the Tablet and give it to Guinevere.

He then follows Larry and the others to find Lancelot who redeems himself and the Tablet regains its power after being exposed to the Moon. Finally, Nick refuses to be a DJ and thinks about going to college instead. With that, he greets his father and goes to his mother.

Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again[]

Larry Daley has to replace a guard who left and he offers the job to his son, Nick. Larry tells his son that while is working in Japan, Nick can take over for him at home. Nick is worried he won't do a good job but he agrees. On his first day, he sees Rexy, Attila, Jedediah, Octavius, Laaa, Dexter the monkey, and Joan of Arc. He has to lock the storage room in the basement gets scared and just uses a statue to block the door instead. This allows Kahmunrah to break free. He steals the tablet that brings the exhibitions to life because he has a master plan to rule the world.

Nick and the others run after Kahmunrah. Rexy stays to guard the museum. Joan has a vision that shows her that Kahmunrah is going to the Museum of Natural Art.

Nick and the group chase Kahmunrah through the art museum. Kahmunrah brings to life the God of Chaos, Seth, who helps him fend the others off. They find the painting that leads to ancient Egypt and go through it. With only a couple of hours until sunrise, Nick and his friends enter the painting as well.

Nick beats himself up for letting Kahmunrah escape but the others attempt to cheer him up. They arrive at Dendur. At the temple, a fight breaks out. Nick plays the notes in reverse which makes the tablet suck away the jackals, Seth and Kahmunrah.

Nick and the others get away but the sun starts to rise. They make it home just in time. Feeling more confident, Nick asks out the girl he likes. He also agrees to be the new night guard at the museum.

Trivia[]

  • Nick was initially played by two actors prior in live-action. Jake Cherry in the first two films and then Skyler Gisondo in the third film. His characterization is mainly based on Gisondo's portrayal.
  • Nick's physical appearance is loosely based on his voice actor's Joshua Bassett.
