Peter and Kate later separate and are planning to file for divorce. He begins a relationship with Natalie Kalban and moves in with her.
After Peter decides to go back and check on Kevin after they got to the airport, he tells Natalie that he can sense something is up. Natalie replies she thinks it is unfair and says Peter knows how much she cares about kids, prompting Peter to reply, "How much do you care about my kid?"
Later, after the bad guys had been arrested, Natalie asks Peter what Kevin did this time, and Peter replies that Kevin saves the day, so she should be thanking him and apologizing for not believing him. Then, after telling Natalie he mistakes infatuation and excitement for love, and that the "smart house" and everything in it is her world and not his, he decides to get back together with Kate.
