Peter McCallister is a supporting protagonist of Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Peter is portrayed by John Heard. Peter is the younger brother of Frank, the older brother of Rob and the middle son of Penelope McCallister and her husband. Peter is married to Kate McCallister and the dad of Kevin, Buzz,,Megan, Linnie and Jeff McCallister.
Biography[]
Before Home Alone[]
Peter McCallister was born as the middle son of Penelope McCallister and her husband. He also has one older brother, Frank and one younger brother Rob.
During his adulthood, he marries Kate and the couple later reside in Winnetka, Illinois with their three sons and two daughters.
Home Alone[]
Peter appears as a supporting protagonist of the movie. While packing for the family vacation to Paris, France, Peter wonders to his wife how he was supposed to shave in France, to which she suggests he grow a goatee.
Peter soon talks to Harry Lyme, who is disguised as a cop as well as the Pizza of Little Nero delivery man (whom he owed $122.50 for ten pizzas). Peter asks the former if he is under arrest, but Harry responds in the negative and that it was Christmas time and a lot of burglaries happens during the holidays and if the McCallisters' are taking proper precautions. Peter remarks that they have locks on their doors and automatic timers on their lights. Before Harry asks Peter when his family was leaving, Peter is pulled over by Buzz to eat pizza. After Kevin tackles Buzz for eating all of his cheese pizza (which Kevin and Buzz are supposed to share), Peter becomes angry and frustratingly instructs Kevin to go upstairs while cleaning the mess up before Kate escort Kevin to the third floor for the night.
Following an electrical outage, the family accidentally sleeps in. In the midst of their rush to leave, they unknowingly leave Kevin behind.
After arriving in France and finally realizing that the family left Kevin behind, he tries to call their neighbors (including the Murphys several times at their home, which is being robbed by Harry and Marv Murchins) asking about Kevin and his whereabouts. He then tells his older brother, Frank, that he can not find anyone; they have all gone shopping and that no one is home for the Christmas holidays.
Later, after the family arrives back home on Christmas Day, after hearing that Kevin has gone shopping and got some milk, eggs and fabric softener, Peter remarks, "What else did you do while we were away?" Kevin replies that he "just hung around." Peter then finds a gold tooth and wondered what it is.
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York[]
Peter appears as a supporting protagonist of the movie. While preparing for the trip to Florida the following year, Peter looks for the batteries for a camcorder. As he finds them, he accidentally resets his alarm clock.
At the Christmas pageant of that evening, when Buzz pulls a trick on Kevin using candlesticks, Peter, along with Kate, Leslie, the conductor and the piano lady, is not laughing.
Later, when Kevin tries to walk out of the family meeting, Peter threatens to send him to the third floor; however, he ultimately goes by himself. Peter, along with Kate are shocked after Kevin calls Frank a cheapskate. The next morning, during the rush of the family to their plane at O'Hare Airport, Kevin accidentally boards a flight to New York City, New York after following a man dressed exactly like Peter.
When the authorities alert the McCallisters that Kevin has been found through the use of one of the credit cards of Peter, the family readies for a trip to New York, wherein Peter assumes that Kevin took shelter at townhouse of his younger brother after being frightened by the hotel staff, thinking that Rob and Georgette has a housesitter, wherein Kate contradicts that they are still in Paris and the residence was in the process of renovation. They travel to New York and confronted the staff for letting Kevin check in without an adult and scaring him off and eventually stay at the Plaza Hotel with Kate searching for Kevin alone. The next day (which is Christmas), after Cedric brings the bill to their suite from original stay of Kevin at the hotel comes, Buzz reads it and gives it to Peter, who then reads the bill and yells, "Kevin! You spent $967 on room service?!"
Trivia[]
- Most fans widely criticize Peter for not calling out his older brother Frank when he calls Kevin a "little jerk". When asked about this during the 30th anniversary of the film, Chris Columbus stated that in retrospective, he would have had Peter asking Frank to shut up if he made the movie today.
